BLAQUE FRIDAY – Introduction

Welcome to BLAQUE FRIDAY!!

So you just got engaged, CONGRATULATIONS!!! I’m sure by now you have realized that it can be overwhelming trying to figure out where to start. Guest list? Budget? Outfits? Cake? Entertainment?Decor? HELP!!!

That’s why we’ve rounded up the best guides to help you navigate through the thousands of questions and be well on your way into WEDDING ZEN.

Before we proceed, so why BLAQUE? Well BLAQUE (pronounced BLACK) is actually and acronym for: “BELIEVING in LOVE & ACHIEVING QUALITY & UNIQUENESS in EVERYTHING.

We offer a wide range of event styling, however in this blog we’ll stick to mainly weddings. My name is Nonceba Mpungose , and I’m your Wedding Blogger.

So you just got engaged, now what?

There are things that no matter how many times you have witnessed from the sidelines, are just indescribable until they actually happen to you. You may have been a bridesmaid tons of times before and have maybe assisted in planning friends weddings before, but there’s nothing compared to the feeling when its actually your own.

First, you won’t be able to stop staring at your hand. After-all its not just about a ring. Its a symbol of love and a lifetime of companionship. Its a new beginning and a change of life as you know it.

Then it will be reciting the proposal story to friends, family, colleagues and everyone you know a million times. Get used to it. Telling and retelling the story is part of the fun of being engaged.

If your family practices African traditions like mines, then lo and behold the LOBOLA NEGOTIATIONS process will soon be or is already under way and that is a completely large and different topic on its own. These traditions are interesting, beautiful and stressful at the same time so I promise to offer you solace and re-visit this topic at a later stage.

So as soon as you get used to the idea of being engaged, people will start asking you about a wedding date and venue long before you’ve even had a chance to think about it. Before you know it you are getting inspiration pictures (thanks to Pinterest) on the latest wedding trends and themes from family and most friends, and in some cases (God forbid you are NOT part of the less fortunate few brides) your mother in law has taken over and started planning YOUR wedding without your knowledge or consent, and you don’t have the guts to say NO!! Recently married friends are sometimes the worst as they suddenly become wedding planning experts and dish out advise and almost always begin every sentence with “when I got married…”

Okay I may have been a bit dramatic above but these scenarios are not far from superficial to some. Well my advice to you bride-to-be is that you  graciously accept it all as a sign of their love and devotion to you —there’s no need to get defensive. If you agree with the advice, take it; if not, thank them and move on with your plans.

Well, its still a fun yet bumpy ride from here all the way to that alter. So have a read on our tips and tricks and hopefully this will cheer you up.

Till next week, HAPPY FRIDAY!!
